Golfing in Switzerland - Online shopping - A Review

We took up golf last year - by which I mean the kids and I took up golf. Husband has been playing for a couple of years. Last year we headed over to Signal de Bougy, a fantastic golf course between Geneva and Lausanne so that he could hit some balls. The kids and I decided to have a go too, and that was us hooked.

Signal de Bougy golf course is run by the supermarket chain Migros. On one side of the road is a golf course, with absolutely stunning views over towards Evian and Montreaux. On the other side is a park - with petting zoo, restaurant, treetop walks and kids' playarea.

This makes it a fantastic place for a day out. We used to send husband off to practice his swing, now we all go. Afterwards we pop over to the park for a picnic and walk.

The area we live in does not have a golf course nearby - aside from the Golf Club de Geneve, which is impossible to get into, even if you can afford the annual fees there. So we take advantage of a small golf course with driving range nearby - with golf pros available to give lessons.

Last year I borrowed clubs from the Club, but this year I wanted to buy my own. As with everything else, golf clubs are very expensive here so I had a look online to see what was on offer in UK as husband will be over with the car later this year.

A bit of googling showed that there are dozens of online golf stores, so I asked on Twitter for recommendations and was helped out by some experienced golfers. I eventually decided on these clubs, from the company onlinegolf.co.uk.

For my daughter it was important to get clubs in the right height. I chose these clubs from US Kids Golf, as they were perfect height for her. Thankfully they are a pretty shade of light orange, and not pink - when will manufacturers realise that not all girls like pink. Or all women for that matter.

When I entered the home address in Switzerland, onlinegolf.co.uk automatically deducted the VAT from the total - so I decided to have them sent to us. The postal costs were reasonable - only £35 for both sets. Since we are only paying the Swiss 8% VAT, it works out about the same as having them posted to UK and bringing them over in the car. And much less hassle.

Note to other online shops - it is quite rare to find stores that automatically deduct VAT and deliver to Switzerland for a reasonable price. Switzerland is expensive and I do a lot of shopping online so these two things matter, and would certainly influence my decision, where to shop.

I ordered the clubs on Sunday, and received my clubs the following Friday. My daughter's clubs came on Monday. The clubs were as described, well packaged and included a free set of golf balls. I can highly recommend the website onlinegolf.co.uk - really great service, good products at competitive prices and will certainly be ordering again.


*UPDATE*
It is now April and I have been golfing a few times with the clubs. I am very happy with them. They are well made, light and easy to use. I did not notice that the bag was not a stand bag when I ordered the clubs, so that is a slight disadvantage, but that was my own fault as the description clearly stated this. I have since ordered a Nike standbag from Onlinegolf.co.uk.
