I blogged about the woman in Wales who was jailed for falsely dropping the charges of rape against her husband.
Now the Guardian are reporting that she was not only abused at least 6 years of their ten year relationship, he attacked her in late October of this year.
According to the victim's sister, the estranged husband who had been thrown out of the family home some months earlier, turned up while his wife and four sons were watching TV.
"He pulled her outside by her hair and pushed her into the garden fence, before ripping her clothes off. One of her older children later told the police he saw her run back into the house with no clothes on," the sister said.
Despite the statements by both the wife and her son, no charges were brought.
This attack happened on the very day that a restraining order was lifted, for a previous attack - just a few weeks before. The husband had been arrested in the early hours of the morning as he tried to break into the house. On this occasion the Crown Prosecution Services decided not to press charges.
It is an absolute scandal that this woman was not protected. How can this be? She cannot live in her own home in safety for fear that her bastard of an husband will turn up. If he does turn up what can she do? Phone the police so that he gets a slap on the hand and told not to do it again.
And God forbid if she should decide not to press charges, or change her mind in any way under the onslaught of pressure from her husband and his family.
Why is this woman in jail and the man who has systematically abused her for YEARS is free?
Why is no one interested?
Where are the scandalised Facebook fans calling for justice for her? Too busy rescuing bloody cats from bins, perhaps?
And in case anyone is unsure of why this is important, I would suggest you take a large slug of wine, a deep breath and read this truly distressing thread on Mumsnet about how few women would report a rape in UK:
This is appalling. And yes, where is the public outcry?
ReplyDeleteI posted this to my facebook page as you suggested. Disgusted, as is my husband.
